Groove Shark Gets Hit With A Massive Lawsuit
Groove Shark is a great website that has saved me from many boring days at work when I forgot to bring my mp3 player. The way the site works is that people upload music to the site and from there the content is left open ended for anyone to search for the music to steam. From what I read on the website is that because they are streaming the music and not giving a option to download they found a ‘loophole’ in the RIAA rules. Well Universal Music begs to differ. According to Universal Music they not only feel that they are in direct violation of RIAA rules they are also claiming the company owes them hundreds of millions of dollars in damages. They claim that from the CEO all the way down the chain of command at the company have uploaded the music infringing on thousands of individual songs copyrights. From what I know this isn’t the first time a lawyer was knocking on their door but it is the first time it was for so much money. Right now it is to soon to tell if they will be around this time next if this lawsuit goes though but till then enjoy the site while you can guys!
